Ratnapura Saman Devalaya


Ratnapura Saman Devalaya

Situated 3 kilometres from the city. This is an ancient temple for the devotees of god Saman, The complex is a great place to appreciate the ancient Sinhalese architecture blending in with the influences of colonial architecture introduced by Dutch. In September, It hosts one of the largest cultural procession in the Sri Lanka.

Pothgul Viharaya

(Ancient temple) 5 kilometre through beautiful country side towards Hangamuwa. Another period temple where king Walagambahu used as a hideout.

Take the Wewalwatta road (B391) from Ratnapura town, Go upto Malwala junction and take Siripagama road (B265) go further 5 kilometers, you will find Induru ganga to your left hand side. Water is little deep in this place, This is great fun for those who can swim, Climb up from the right hand side and you will find many places for you to have a drink.
If you prefer family friendly place with kids, Drive 1km further up the same road, you will find another great place with a shallow water pool

Drive to the Higgashena junction along Ratnapura highway A3 (12km from Ratnapura town towards Kuruwita on Colombo road), Turn and drive on Agalawatte road up to Devipahala village, You will find plenty of road markings to reach the falls. This could be quite crowded on holidays, If you prefer privacy freedom, There are plenty others.
